Offspring in Eichsfeld
01.10.2025

With the help of wildlife cameras, BUND Thüringen, together with researchers from the University of Göttingen, has been monitoring the development of the lynx population in the Eichsfeld district in northwestern Thuringia for seven years. Due to the proximity, the Harz lynxes are slowly spreading into this area.
At the beginning of September, a female lynx with a cub was photographed northwest of Leinefelde. This confirms that the lynxes in Eichsfeld have had offspring again this year. It is possible that the female lynx had more cubs with her, but they were outside the camera’s field of vision at the time the photo was taken. Lynxes usually give birth to two to four cubs once a year.
