Thuringian lynx released into the wild in Austria
31.01.2025

The lynx population in the Austrian Kalkalpen National Park is small. Moreover, there has been no offspring for years. The reintroduction of lynx male Janus is part of efforts to strengthen the lynx population. A brother of Janus was released into the wild in the area back in December 2022, but has not been observed for a long time. He had not produced any offspring.
Janus was born in spring 2023 in the wildcat village of Hütscheroda. His release into the wild before the start of the lynx mating season (February-March) gives hope that, with a bit of luck, there could soon be offspring in the Kalkalpen National Park.
